The Alma Center - Who We Are

Rick A. Harris, Psy.D.C.E.O.
Psychologist

From a young age I knew that I wanted to help people. My over 30 years as a clinical psychologist has allowed me to fulfill my lifelong dream. As a psychologist it has been my mission to help people overcome the emotional barriers that prevent them from reaching their potential. I have had the opportunity to do this in various settings; private practice, hospitals and treatment centers. My interest in the mind-body connection has helped me gain a better understanding of the complex interaction between the two and has contributed to the development of The Neurofeedback Institute. I was a cofounder in the mid 80’s of one of the first wellness centers that treated eating disorders; Changing Lifestyles. I am excited to have been instrumental in the development of The Alma Center to provide individuals with eating disorders, an innovative evidence-based treatment program. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Marie Darmanian, Psy.D. / C.O.O.
Psychologist

I have been fortunate to have practiced in many settings, such as hospitals, community mental health centers and private practice, working with many talented professionals and treating a wide variety of disorders.  I have worn several hats throughout the years, as an administrator, developer of clinical programs, implementing mental health services, providing psychological, psychoeducational and neuropsychological assessments, and as a research coordinator.  Currently, in my private practice, I specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of anxiety and mood disorders. Working with the Alma Center, I have been given the opportunity to participate in the development of a treatment philosophy, as well as, to develop and implement the diagnostic assessment tools helpful to understand a person’s unique way of seeing and reacting to the world.

I utilize a collaborative and systemic approach to working with clients. I believe in considering all aspects of a person, including the emotional, physical/medical, cognitive, and relationship. I have worked with individuals struggling with various forms of eating disorder over the course of my career. I meet my clients at their comfort level and together we establish goals that work to build a life of wellness.

My educational background includes an MS in Mental Health Counseling and a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy both from Nova Southeastern University. I was part of the HBO documentary Thin and have been a speaker and interviewed in the topic of eating disorder.
