Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive-behavioral therapy is the leading evidence-based treatment. A person’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected and can be restructured to support new, healthier thoughts and actions. Cognitive behavior therapy provides the foundation for individual and group therapies.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
The primary goal of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is to help individuals build a life that has meaning and worth, with freedom from suffering. DBT integrates Eastern psychological and spiritual philosophies, including the practice of mindfulness, which provide for a heightened focus on acceptance (rather than change) and on the healthy regulation of difficult emotions.
Family Support
When an individual experiences an eating disorder, the entire family/support system is affected. The eating disorder may have led to relationship issues, lack of trust, communication breakdowns, and more. We believe that by helping the family, the individual’s path to wellness is improved.
Nutrition
Nutrition therapy is focused on helping to address personal nutritional requirements by developing an individualized meal plan, helping you to learn about your body’s internal cues for hunger and fullness, and address negative or irrational thoughts about yourself and food.
Neurotherapy
We recognize that brain regulation is important in the treatment of eating disorders so we use neurotherapy to help balance your brain. Research has made headway in learning that signals in the brain go awry in the brains of people who suffer from eating disorder in what is called “an unbalanced brain.”
Whether these altered regions help trigger eating disorders or instead are caused by them remains unknown. It does not matter. What matters is that the “unbalanced brain” needs to be treated through neurofeedback.
Expressive Therapies
Expressive Therapy is a valuable form of treatment for individuals with eating disorders. Our specially trained expressive therapists help patients move through the wellness process using art, writing, music, gentle movement and guided imagery.
Behavior Change
The founding psychologist, Dr. Rick Harris has developed a unique treatment method to facilitate behavior change: The RIC method. In changing behavior, the first step is Recognizing the behavior. Once we recognize the behavior it is important to gain Insight into the underlying thoughts or feelings that drive that behavior. The final step to change the behavior is to Confront those thoughts, feelings and/or behavior. Only through personaly confronting or challenging does behavior change.
