Freedom from Eating Disorders, From the Comfort of Your Home

The Alma Center was founded by a team of compassionate, dedicated expert mental health practitioners and dietitians with a combined 10 decades of mental health experience. Our practice’s Virtual Therapy is unparalleled in the industry – so much so that our in-person patients have switched to online therapy, praising the effectiveness and ease of being able to experience the evidenced-based treatment program for eating disorders from their own home.

Our Online Therapy programs are accepted by most medical insurance plans.

How Virtual Therapy Works

Meet with us to Determine Direction of Care

To introduce you to the Alma Center, and get to know your unique and individual needs, we start by conducting a Virtual Level of Care Consultation. This conversation helps us determine how to tailor a program for your specific needs, your availability, and your comfort level. Every person is unique – so is Alma Center’s approach.

Digital Questionnaire

The next step after our initial consultation is to get an in-depth understanding of you as a patient. This part involves filling out a number of online questionnaires to identify your condition or disorder, and identify any co-occurring disorders that may also contribute to the issue you are experiencing.

Virtual Meeting with a Dietitian

The process of identifying and eliminating problems associated with eating disorders start in the kitchen. We need to understand your nutritional habits, and determine which negative behaviors when it comes to food reinforce the eating disorders. Creating a healthy nutritional plan is an excellent way towards mental and physical wellness.

Creation of Nutrition Plan

Now that we’ve online-met and identified your nutritional habits, Alma Center’s Dietitian will create a nutritional plan uniquely suited to your needs, your comfort level, and your lifestyle. Remember that every step of this process is one that involves us talking, communicating and feeling out the best way forward. This nutritional plan will help us on the path to your freedom from eating disorders.

Virtual Small Group Therapy

The best way to approach eating disorders is to connect with others experiencing similar struggles. The Alma Center conducts this through Virtual Group Therapy, 3 times per week, via secured teleconference. We start this session with therapeutic meal that you create based on your nutritional plan. We dine together, and then discuss our experiences. The session involves mind-body work exercise, where we encourage art, music, meditation and specific skills to help you on your path to wellness.

Virtual Individual Therapy

To supplement Group Therapy, the healing process also involves Virtual Individual Therapy sessions, typically once per week. This time is set aside to help you with your individual needs to clear your mind of the negative influences that drive destructive nutritional habits. Your individual Therapist is chosen based on the best fit for you, determined via your initial consultation and questionnaires.

Virtual Therapy at the Alma Center

We live in an age where traveling, and meeting in person is not only inconvenient, but can also be dangerous. Online Therapy is an excellent alternative to in-person meetings, allowing for therapy sessions without having to travel, or even leave the comfort of your home. To best make use of Virtual Therapy, we recommend setting aside time, and a quiet personal space with no interruptions. Just like an in-person therapy session, this should be private time between you, your therapist and your group.

You are Exactly where You need to be

The specialized treatment approach of individual, group, nutritional, neurotherapy, and expressive therapies treat each individual’s own unique set of causes, symptoms and health risks. The path to wellness often extends beyond the individual. Alma also provides support for parents, caregivers, and all family members.
